The first one that we’re going to talk about is a platform hitch bike rack from the famous Allen Sports. This bike rack is a joy to any cyclist. It’s a 2-bike carrier for a 1 1/4 or 2-inch hitch.

Yes, it’s compatible with your CRV as long as it meets the measurement of the hitch. This rack doesn’t weigh that much and also looks cool when you attach it to your car.

It has a strong metal body that doesn’t weigh more than 30 pounds. Yet, it has a weight capacity of 70 pounds. I guess, the makers played it safe. That means 35 pounds per bike. Besides some exceptions like e-bikes or mountain bikes (they tend to weigh more), this rack will hold your bikes without any problem.

If you think installing a rack would be time-consuming and boring. Well, that’s not the case with XR200.

Do you know how to use a wrench? That’s basically what you need to install it. Yes, it will take some to get used to it. With time, installing this rack will become a passive chore to you. It’s that easy.

Allen Sports XR200 provides the utmost security and safety for your bikes. It has an adjustable, padded upper frame connector. This connector will make sure that your bikes stay safe from unwanted bumps and wobbles. The strap connection is compatible with a wide range of tube sizes and shapes.

Furthermore, the buckle is completely wrapped in a TPR housing. Ultimately, the XR200 does all in its power to keep your bikes securely in one place while you’re driving your CVR.

Will your bikes fit in this rack? The answer is… “Yes.”

Allen Sports 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack is very versatile in this regard. The wheel trays con hold up to a 3” wide tire. People can adjust it to accommodate a wide range of bicycles sizes.

Whatever bikes you may have, the XR200 can house them without a hassle. No problems here.

Moving on, every good bike rack should have flexibility. It should make the transporting more fun rather than a nuisance. Keeping that in mind, the manufacturer added a nice tilting feature to this rack. It makes accessing the rear end of your vehicle easy.

It also has a clever feature that comes in very handy from time to time. This bike rack is tiltable. Also, users can fold it to minimize its profile further. If you’re too busy to unhook it, just tilt it and fold it up.

Overall, this is a smart and able bike rack that does what it’s supposed to do: keep the bikes safe and secure, and don’t break midway. It’s strong, sturdy, and made to last.

The XR200 doesn’t wobble that much to affect your driving experience. Most importantly, it makes the whole transporting your bike thing a fun job.

Now, let’s take a look at a hanging hitch rack. The Tyger Auto TG-RK4B102B Deluxe is designed for as many as 4 bikes. A family bike tour is not a thing of wonder anymore.

Rather, a reality with this heavy-duty “Peach” of a product. Transport up to 4 bikes at a time with ease and escape somewhere far with your loved ones.

This rack is compatible with any type of bike we’ve got, has good safety features, doesn’t take long to install, and is flexible in nature as well. It doesn’t wobble that much like average bike racks and has a quite decent build. That said, let’s explore this bike rack a bit more.

Starting with the build, I have to say, this is pretty robust. Made from solid steel, it’s built to provide long-term service if taken care of properly. It comes with a classic OE standard black color E-Coating.

While it protects the whole structure from being rusty, it also makes the whole rack look classy as well. Transport your bikes in style!

TG-RK4B102B weighs less than the XR200. To be precise, it weighs approximately 28.2 pounds and still has more weight capacity (132 pounds) than the XR200.

So, that’s about 33 pounds per bike. I mean, our kids’ bikes aren’t going to weigh more than 25 pounds… right? But anyway, this is a nice solution if you want to take your whole family with you.

As I said earlier, in the beginning, this is compatible with almost any bike. It can fit all types of dual-arm bikes on your Honda CRV equipped with either a 1.25 or 2-inch hitch receiver. The rack also comes with “Easy” ratchet buckles, TYGER cable lock, hitch lock, and security strap. No need for extra accessories!

Yes. Tyger Auto TG-RK4B102B has the tilt-down feature. If the need to access your rear part of the vehicle arises in the middle of the trip, just tilt it down and you’re set. No impediments, nothing.

Remember, how the Allen Sports  XR200 could be folded? This one has that cool feature too. The carry arms are totally foldable. Make the size more compact with this feature when you’re not carrying bikes. You can also save some space in the garage with this.

Now, how about the safety of the bikes? Does it take good care of them while you’re on the asphalt? The answer to these questions is short and yet enough: Yes, the TG-RK4B102B takes good care of your bikes. It keeps them safe and securely keeps them in one place.

It’s incorporated with soft cradles and a protection pad. These plastic parts won’t feel cheap at all. They are built with the thought of keeping your bikes secure and protecting the frames from any kind of bump on the road.

This is by far one of the best bike racks for Honda CRV if you want to take your whole family with you on your next adventure. You won’t find that many bike racks that can carry 4- bikes at a time like this one. This is made to last and also has tons of cool features that will make the transporting of bikes fun again.

  • Bike Capacity: 2
  • Load Capacity: 120 lbs

Thule T2 PRO XT is in a league of its own. This gorgeous bike rack from Thule is designed to perform and last. It’s packed with numerous features and provides incredible performance out on the road.  Hence, if you want to buy a hitch-mounted rack only once in your life, read this one carefully.

Thule T2 has an easy to maneuver tilt lever, robust ratcheting arms, and is compatible with everything from those e-bikes to massive fat bikes. Thule T2 Pro XT comes with a built-in locking system and keeps your bikes safe and sound.

This is a heavy-duty, platform-style hitch bike rack. Naturally, it weighs a bit more. But it comes as a blessing. More weight equals more durability. Made from alloy, the T2 Pro XT’s metal frame is rugged. Even the plastic cradles and smaller parts are made from high-quality material.

My first question when buying this for a review was, “How much weight can it really carry?”

Apparently, this rack can handle two 60-pound bikes! That’s a lot of weight if you ask me. If you have one of those massive bikes that weigh like rock, with this bike rack you can carry them without having to worry at all.

In some cases, people tend to sway from platform bike racks since it takes more time to assembly the rack. Since this is a heavy piece of utility, it does require some time to assemble it (roughly 20 to 25 minutes). Come on! You don’t have to be so hasty before you go out on a trip, right? Haste makes waste.

Rather, concentrate when you’re setting it and over time you’ll become faster and quicker. After all, they’re so easy and fun to use. Not to mention, mounting or unmounting the bikes has never been so easier, thanks to the ratcheting arms.

As long as your Honda CRV has 2-inch hitch receiver models, you’ll be fine. Also, the Thule T2 Pro XT can carry a wide range of two-wheelers. They can do so without using any adapters. Their cradles can house tires up to 5 inches wide.

Those days are over when you couldn’t fit your bikes in your rack. Assemble the rack, mount your bikes on it and drive away!

As for security, it has a 24” cable lock that secures the bike to the rack. You don’t have to buy extra cables for this matter. What I most like about this rack is its tilt system.

Known as HitchSwitch Lever, it is adjustable all the way and literally takes minimum effort to tilt the whole rack. Kudos to their designing team!

This rack has all the qualities that you would want your bike rack to have for your Honda CRV. It has a solid structure that is coupled with several useful features. In simple words, this rack is built to make the life of an avid cyclist a lot easier.

So far on my list of best bike racks for Honda CRV, we’ve talked mostly about the platform and hanging hitch-mounted racks. This time, we will take a look at something different…something fresh.

Don’t worry, it fits in almost all vehicles let alone your Honda CRV. It is designed so well that, it makes literally ZERO CONTACT with your vehicle. They are very easy to use and also have a clean sleek look. Available in one and two bikes versions, this is a decent bike rack that’s definitely worth trying.

So, let’s dig around a bit more and see what this trunk bike rack from Saris Bone has to offer…

This thing weighs only 12.23 pounds. Yes, you’ve read that right. The rack feels like a feather but works like a charm. Being lightweight, it makes it extremely easy to move around. As a matter of fact, if your Honda CRV doesn’t have a hitch, you can bet your money on this.

Also, a lot of cyclists don’t like to take chances with hanging or platform-style racks. No matter how much it says on their brochure that bikes won’t sway or get damaged.

However, the Saris Bones EX Trunk Bike Rack Carrier has anti-sway cradles that eliminate that problem totally. Also, the space between the bikes is more than any hanging racks.

It has a decent weight capacity too. The Saris Bones EX can carry three bikes up to 35 pounds each. So, yes… this bad boy can carry from standard family bikes to even some fairly heavier mountain bikes.

Their new premium bike hold-downs are pretty impressive if you ask me. It makes sure your bike’s frames stay safe from any scratches during travel. For more security, there’s a ratchet clasp that further ensures the security of your bike.

Mounting bikes on bike racks has never been so easier. With all the bike carriers you have to give a lot of effort but with the Saris Bones Ex, it’s super easy. Simply remove the pedals and place a bit of pipe lagging around your bikes’ frames at possible contact points. That’s it!

There are, however, some drawbacks of a Trunk bike rack. For instance, it’ll block you from accessing the rear part of the vehicle. Yes, you can fold it but still, you won’t be able to access the back of your Honda CRV. Bummer, I know.

So, if you tend to take short trips and you definitely know that you won’t be accessing your trunk, then you’ll be fine. By folding Saris Bone’s arms, you can save a lot of space. Also, they have a cool mechanism for folding down and they can move independently.

The Saris Bones EX Trunk Bike Rack is capable. It’s made from rust-free injection molded plastic that’s guaranteed for life. Its articulated rubber feet don’t lay a finger on your CRV.

Despite the absence of a built-in locking mechanism, I would say it’s still very capable of transporting your bikes from one place to another.

5. YAKIMA – FrontLoader Wheel-On Mount Upright Roof Bike Rack For Honda CRV

Roof Mount

Quick Summary:
  • Material: Carbon fiber
  • Dimensions: 56.5″ x 8.5″ x 10″

The last bike rack on our list for Honda CRV is from YAKIMA. It’s a rooftop bike rack that’ll save you from the trouble of removing the front wheel of your bike. You can mount it entirely on the roof of your CRV and it only comes into contact with the wheels and tires of your bike.

This particular design makes it compatible with any type of bike regardless of axle standards. It looks cool and maneuvering it is quite hassle-free. However, the only drawback of this carrier is that you need to do a bit of stretching while mounting your bikes on it since it’s relatively higher than fork mount racks.

Weighing just under 20 pounds this rack gracefully sits on top of your CRV. It’s well-designed and feels very strong as well. Made exclusively from carbon fiber, at least durability should not be an issue with this one. Although, it has a lot of plastics parts just like any other good bike rack still they won’t feel cheap at all.

You’re going to love this when I say, the whole thing comes fully assembled. All you have to do is place the rack on your CRV for attaching the crossbars. Yes, that’s basically it. One thing that bummed me out though and that is, it doesn’t have any built-in security system.

Therefore, if you want to secure the rack and use the included cable lock, you would have to separately purchase the lock cores from YAKIMA. The only upside of this locking system is that you only need to do this once. The task takes less than five minutes.

When it comes to versatility, YAKIMA’s FrontLoader falls a little bit short. Yes, it will house almost any kind of crossbar, and the axle type of bike is certainly not an issue, but it’s limited to tire size though. For instance, the front tire clamps aren’t built to handle tires over 3-inches in width.

So, if you’re a proud owner of those massive mountain bikes, you’ll have to look somewhere else to carry them on your vehicle. You can pick any of the four bike racks that I’ve mentioned above. They’re more than capable of carrying those bikes with fat tires.

Let’s focus on its bright side for the moment and it has plenty. For example, to install it… you don’t need any tools. The mechanism is rather rudimentary and effective. A big hand knob on the front end of the rack just needs to be turned and it will draw the front clamp smoothly around the crossbar.

Despite that slight compatibility issue, there’s a lot to like about this rack from YAKIMA. It’s built to last as long as you take care of it.

Since it only comes into contact with tires, the bike’s frame will remain untouched and unbothered. The rack will firmly hold the bikes in place so you can drive on without any worries.

What’s Going to be the Ideal Bike Rack for Honda CRV for People in a Hurry?

You see, here I’ve picked bike racks of different kinds for Honda CRV. I wanted to give you more options that’ll go perfectly with your Honda CRV. I’ve included two platform-style racks. One from Thule and the other from Allen Sports.

The other three include one rooftop rack, one trunk rack, and finally one hanging rack. Apart from the rooftop rack from YAKIMA and Saris Bones EX Trunk Bike Rack, your Honda CRV should have a 1.25 or 2-inches hitch to work with the hanging or platform racks.

If you don’t want to go through the trouble of installing a hitch, you can put your trust in the other two. But here’s the catch, Saris Bones will require a lot of effort to assemble every time you want to go on a trip.

honda crv bike rack guide

In addition, you can’t access the rear cargo. The moment you install it; you can forget about accessing it.

Even without the bikes mounted, your rearview will be blocked almost entirely. But, if you don’t prefer long drives often, you can go with it. Build-wise, it’s solid and there’s no compatibility issue with it.

Let’s turn our attention to YAKIMA now. This rooftop rack goes perfectly with Honda CVR. There’re, however, only two downsides to it. One, the height. Some might find it quite a bit of a nuisance trying to get the bike over the roof.

The other issue is the more crucial one. Because if you own mountain bikes or bikes that have wheel width over 3-inches, you will not be able to mount them on them. So, if you own standard bikes regardless of the axle type you can try this rack, no problem.

As for the other three racks, Thule T2 Pro is my personal favorite. Why should you consider it? Well, how about the fact that it’s one of the toughest and most secure bike racks out there? It’s a bit pricey but if you want to spend only once, well, you can surely bet your money on it.

Allen Sports’ XR200 will carry two bikes only. It’s a pretty decent bike rack too. Just like Thule T2 Pro, it has a solid build and well-respected compatibility. Goes perfect with a CVR, if you tend to carry two bikes only and don’t want to spend much, this can be a great option for you.

But if you want better performance and more safety for both your car and bikes, you should definitely consider the Thule T2 Pro. If you purchase the extra add-on, you will be able to carry four bikes at a time.

My Final Two Cents

A good bike rack can make our lives a lot easier, especially, if cycling is something that you adore. Even if you’re a seasonal biker like many of us out there, well, you can’t do without one. Not only it’ll take a lot of worrying impediments out of the equation, but also it’ll inspire you to get out more often.

A good bike rack is nothing less than a good companion, remember that. As long as you take care of it, it’ll last more than you can imagine. Just be very careful when you choose one. If you get your facts right, hopefully, you’ll only have to spend once.

Don’t want to go through the process of installing a hitch on your Honda CVR? No problem!

Go with the rooftop rack from YAKIMA or the Saris Bones EX Trunk bike rack. Just be mindful of their little shortcomings, and if you think you’ll be okay… You can certainly give them a go. Both of them are quite good.

Other than that, no bike rack comes even close to Thule T2 Pro XT in terms of its features and performance. If budget is not an issue, this is the best bike rack for Honda CRV that you should consider. Allen Sports 2-Bike Platform rack is always there if your mind says otherwise.

Overall, all of these bike racks have their own specialties. They come from well-reputed companies and have been giving services to thousands of bike lovers all around the globe.
